Crossroads Farm
Dr. Reza Rafie started Crossroads Farm in Petersburg, Virginia, about 15 years ago. He holds a doctorate in Horticultural Science and has worked all over the world, growing fruits and vegetables and consulting with farmers on their growing practices. His work has taken him to Hawaii, Florida, Honduras, the South Pacific, and more. He relocated to the Richmond area with his family in 2007 and started their small farm near Petersburg.
Rafie specializes in growing berries and saw the opportunity to grow muscadine grapes in Virginia. The species is native to the region and, therefore, grows well and is resistant to many diseases common to other species of bunched grapes. In addition to growing muscadine grapes himself, Rafie works with regional farmers and the Virginia Cooperative Extension through VSU to share his knowledge with others in the field.
